Accommodation
Private Housing
Many students prefer to live in shared houses or flats rented privately. These are usually shared with other students.
Birmingham City University Accommodation Services holds information on flats and houses for let by private sector landlords in Birmingham. Properties are registered only upon receipt of gas and electrical safety certificates. The University does not inspect these properties, but does however ensure property owners comply with a Code of Practice before registering their property. All agreements are between the student and the property owner.
Rents vary and are normally exclusive of charges for utilities such as gas, electricity and telephone. A returnable deposit will normally be payable and the property owner is responsible for carrying out repairs and maintenance. You should seek independent advice before signing a Tenancy agreement as this document is legally binding.
