Eating Out & Food Shopping
As with any large international city, Birmingham’s restaurants and takeaways can cater for any taste. However, on a tight student budget you’d be wise to eat out only occasionally and instead cater for yourself.
To avoid months of beans on toast, students leaving home for the first time should remember the following shopping tips:
DO plan ahead and make a weekly shopping list (and stick to it!). That way you won’t forget anything or be tempted to stray and impulse-buy in ‘aisle twelve’.
DON’T go shopping when you’re feeling hungry. Everything becomes too tempting and before you know it, you’ll have spent your weekly entertainments budget too.
DO shop around. There’s a supermarket war out there – make sure you visit the one giving the best deals.
AVOID paying over the odds for premium brands and ready meals. You can rustle-up your own tasty alternative using cheaper own-brand and value products.
For those of you who are still not keen on the idea of catering for yourself, take a look at the ‘Can Cook – Will Cook’ page!
