TITLE Cisco Certified Network Associate(CCNA)
Part 2, l5wks, 6hrs/wk


OBJECTITVES:

The purpose of this module is to extend the principles of computer network design and to provide students with the necessary skills to install, configure and operate simple routed LAN, routed WAN and switched LAN networks. It also prepares students for the CCNA certification Exam

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Understand how public circuit and packet switched facilities can be employed to build WAN based computer networks
  • Appreciate the nature of end-to-end systems and protocols and their impact on the design of computer networks
  • Configure VLANs on Cisco switches
  • Configure advanced routing protocols (IGRP)on commercial Cisco routers · Discover routing errors using Ping,TRACE and debug commands ~
  • Filter and control IP plus IPX traffic
  • Design/plan and implement LAN solutions, which require switched hybrid, mixed speed and hierarchical LAN technologies


PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Cisco Certified Network Associate Part 1

INDICATIVE CONTENT:

LAN design
Novell IPX/SPX,
Fast Ethernet 100Mb/s, half and full-duplex. LAN segementation,design guidelines, Ethernet switching
VLANs. Spanning Tree algorithm
Access-control lists- managing and controlling IP and IPX traffic WAN services LAPB, Frame Relay, ISDN/LAPD, HDLC, PPP, DDR WAN Design

PROGRAMME OF STUDY

The module will be delivered as follows
15x3 hr lecture/self paced tuition(using Web based multi-media curriculum) 15x3 hr tutorial/practical
Lecture/self paced tuition 45 hours Tutorial/Practical 45 hours Directed and student centred learning 30 hours Total 120 hours
Remote access to the Web-based curriculum will enable distance learning support. This will require Internet access from home/work etc

ASSESSMENT

To obtain Cisco Networking Academy Certification, all on-line tests must be completed with a minimum pass mark of 40%, and, successfully complete the semester one and two skills based tests.
Those who achieve a pass mark of > 70% in the end of semester final exams, will be eligible for a 40% discount voucher for the ICND 640-811 exam or if not taken the INTRO exam the CCNA exam640-801 with a discount.
Achieving a pass mark of 80% in these assessments prepares students, in part, for the CCNA certification exam
