An exciting centre of national importance, Millennium Point
leads the regeneration of Birmingham City's Eastside. The building
provides a gateway for the Public
and Commercial Enterprise to discover, learn, understand and interact with
science, engineering and technology. Millennium Point is a stimulating focal
point for technology-based learning, research, commerce, study and leisure.
Millennium
Point is leading the regeneration of the Birmingham Eastside City Centre, It is a £114million purpose-built development providing state-of-the-art resources and
facilities for discovering and utilising technology.
Millennium
Point is a celebration of the region's innovative skills and a focus for the understanding
and application of technology in the new millennium. The Millennium
Point building brings together learning, leisure, and real
applications of technology to meet the needs of individuals,
business and the community across the region.
Millennium
Point comprises four components with a Science, Engineering Technology & Learning theme. Each is designed to complement the other and contribute towards
the provision of a unique technology focused centre. These
components are:
- The
technology innovation centre
- The
University of the First Age - a new learning initiative for young people with advanced resources and equipment
encouraging active participation from young people aged 11-14
years
- The
Thinktank - an interactive science and technology based exhibition for the twenty-first
century, showcasing and demonstrating developments from the
Industrial Revolution through to modern-day technologies
and a look into the future.
- The
Hub - cafes, restaurants, shopping and leisure facilities and new public squares,
plus the region's first IMAX cinema. A place for families
to visit and businesses to meet
All four components are housed within the newly constructed Millennium Point
landmark building, which is supported by the Millennium Commission.
Through the use of advanced information and communications technology, Millennium
Point enables 'virtual access' to many of its facilities - a true centre for
the new millennium. Public access galleries allow visitors at Millennium Point
the opportunity to witness the technology innovation centre at work, providing
first-hand experience of the latest developments in environmental engineering,
design, electronics and automotive research and many other exciting technologies,
that will affect everyone's lives.
