Millennium Point

An exciting centre of national importance, Millennium Point leads the regeneration of Birmingham City's Eastside. The building provides a gateway for the Public and Commercial Enterprise to discover, learn, understand and interact with science, engineering and technology. Millennium Point is a stimulating focal point for technology-based learning, research, commerce, study and leisure.

Millennium Point is leading the regeneration of the Birmingham Eastside City Centre, It is a £114million purpose-built development providing state-of-the-art resources and facilities for discovering and utilising technology.

Millennium Point is a celebration of the region's innovative skills and a focus for the understanding and application of technology in the new millennium. The Millennium Point building brings together learning, leisure, and real applications of technology to meet the needs of individuals, business and the community across the region.

Millennium Point comprises four components with a Science, Engineering Technology & Learning theme. Each is designed to complement the other and contribute towards the provision of a unique technology focused centre. These components are:

  • The technology innovation centre
  • The University of the First Age - a new learning initiative for young people with advanced resources and equipment encouraging active participation from young people aged 11-14 years
  • The Thinktank - an interactive science and technology based exhibition for the twenty-first century, showcasing and demonstrating developments from the Industrial Revolution through to modern-day technologies and a look into the future.
  • The Hub - cafes, restaurants, shopping and leisure facilities and new public squares, plus the region's first IMAX cinema. A place for families to visit and businesses to meet

All four components are housed within the newly constructed Millennium Point landmark building, which is supported by the Millennium Commission.
Through the use of advanced information and communications technology, Millennium Point enables 'virtual access' to many of its facilities - a true centre for the new millennium. Public access galleries allow visitors at Millennium Point the opportunity to witness the technology innovation centre at work, providing first-hand experience of the latest developments in environmental engineering, design, electronics and automotive research and many other exciting technologies, that will affect everyone's lives.
